Hey, my name is Jalin Irene, I am a missionary and part time nanny. Saying I love my job is an understatement, ’cause I think it’s the best in the world. I get to take care of children of different ages from itty-bitty babies to middle school kids, and I also get the opportunity to travel on the mission field all over the world as I learn how to best tell people about Jesus’ love.
I enjoy writing (specifically blogs), reading, scrapbooking, creating handmade cards, and really doing just about anything with my hands. I absolutely love bubbles, smiley faces, and train whistles, they make me so happy! Since coming back to the States from Uganda (December 2011) I have formed a strange addiction to Minesweeper, I can choose not to play, but as soon as I start I can’t stop until I have beat the game. I would probably say Mash and Gilligan’s Island are my two favorite TV shows.
Currently I live with my parents, my dad works with computers, and my mom teaches my younger brother at home. My mom also taught me until I graduated high school in 2011.
Throughout high school I participated in summer mission camps with my church youth group. We painted a school outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee, painted a church in the outskirts of Springfield, Ohio, did yard work, cleaning, and other odd jobs at a Boys & Girls Club in Cleveland, Tennessee, and we mowed yards for widows with Widow’s Harvest in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
I’ve been involved with children’s ministry at my church on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights and a week long “Kid’s Camp” for 4 years as a Jr. Councilor. A few weeks after the tornado hit Joplin, Missouri my church sent a group through Samaritan’s Purse to help clean up the destruction.
So far I have traveled to Ecuador (March 2010) and Uganda (Fall 2011). I went to Ecuador with ServantLife, the team and I put together a VBS for about 40 Kindergarten to 6th grade students, we also painted the outside of their school. My team with Adventures in Missions (AIM) and I lived in Uganda for 3 1/2 months doing anything between prayer walks to teaching, and paperwork to hospital visits.
Currently I am preparing to go back in April to a Ugandan village, and to travel with AIM on their Immersion trip this coming September.
