So my final stop on the Immersion trip with Adventures In Missions is: South Africa. Here’s what I’ve found out about this country:
It’s capitol is: Pretorica, Cape Town
South Africa is slightly smaller than TWO Texas states
The currency is called the South African Rand 1USD = (about) 7 ZAR – South Africa is the richest and more industrialized country in Africa.
The official languages are: English, Afrikaans, Ndebele, Sepedi, Xhosa, Venda, Tswana, Southern Sotho, Zulu, Swazi, and Tsonga – I promise I didn’t just start typing letters this is what I found. . .
April 27th the country celebrates “Freedom Day”
Population: 48,810,427 (July 2012)
50% people living in poverty (est. 2000 – the most recent I could find) – I can only pray and hope that it is a smaller amount today.
5.6 million people living with HIV/AIDS (2009 est.)
Religion: 36.6% Christian, 7.1% Catholic, 1.5% Muslim, 38.3% other, 1.4% unspecified, 15.1% none
An estimated 1.5 children in South Africa are orphaned.
South Africa needs God’s love so much, yes it’s the richest country in Africa, but they still need so much, and this country has such a huge potential for God’s kingdom and I am being given the opportunity to be a part of it.
