So on my Immersion trip (the 9 month long trip) has three stops. No, I’m not staying in Honduras for nine months, just 3 months. After that, I’ll move on to Thailand. Here are a few facts:

Where is Thailand?

Population = 65,905,410 (estimated July 2009)

Here’s their flag:

The school year typically runs from May to March – 6 years of education is provided, secondary school (AKA high school) is 6 years, but only a minority continue with secondary school.

Thais play soccer, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, kite flying and takro (object: keep a wicker ball in the air without using hands, hmm. . .)

The currency is called the baht – 1USD = about 30 bahts

The languages = Thi, English (secondary language of the elite), ethnic and regional dialect

The area of Thailand is slightly smaller than Texas. . . or equivalent to France

Compassion International has more than 32,700 children in 210 child development centers

People living with HIV/AIDS = (about) 610,000

Religion = 94.6% Buddhist, 4.6% Muslim, .7% Christian, and .1% other

Around 80,000 women and children have been sold into Thailand’s sex industry since 1990

Going to straight to Thailand from Honduras, will be a challenge to me not only because of the time change/difference, but also because of the opportunity to work with women in the sex trade. But this country and women need to know of Christ love for them, and that they have a choice to do something else.
